Whirligig Design and Construction
These are arm-waving whirligigs, also know
as split-wing whirligigs. Each has a brass shaft
through the body for the arm or wing rotation.
Nylon bushings insure unlimited spinning.
A stainless steel ball and a vertical copper tube
are in the body for mounting on the pivot rod.
Every wooden part is individually hand carved
and painted. Whirligigs carved from one inch
thick pine may be considered high relief.
In-the-round models are carved from 2 inch pine.
These whirligigs have been designed by a
mechanical engineer to operate outdoors all
year round. All components are made from
materials impervious to harsh weather – brass,
copper, nylon bushings, and pinewood primed
and brightly coated with the best twenty-first
century paints. Every whirligig is “broken-in”
outside for a couple of weeks.
“We will sell no whirligig before it’s time.”
Whirligig Mounting
Mount your whirligig on a stand or
headless spike on your deck, a fence or clothesline
pole in your yard where it will be most visible
and most likely to receive the best breezes.
Then sit back and watch it go.

“The person who has everything doesn’t have one of these.”
